Evelyn Ramirez Ms. Fergus Fashion 24 August 2017 Fashion inside the American culture Many regions around the world have influenced the American culture. The United States is the third largest country in the world with more than three hundred twenty - five million people. There are many cultures in every region that shape the american culture. For instance, Native Americans, Latin Americans, Africans and Asians, according to livescience. Fashion over the years in america has changed. Clothing in america has told a story of race, class, sex, politics and popular culture, a story is told through the clothes that the American culture has worn over the centuries†¦show more content†¦In addition, during the early 1950s clothing choices for the American culture changed a lot including modesty, attitudes and values. Everybody was wearing, â€Å" The New Look.† The look of early 1950s was about maturity, being glamorous, and put together. Women became independent after World War II. Women in the American culture wore slim, comfortab le suits, silhouettes, shirt dresses and even pants to work which was not allowed in the 1800s. Everything was regulated from skirt lengths to the size of collars. During this era there was an air of conformity. A woman s appearance was linked to their husbands success. Women would spend their money on getting dressed. Everyone wanted to act and look, â€Å" normal†. Women were expected to look groomed, impeccable, and have coordinating shoes, hats, gloves, and jewelry. Fabrics like velvet, tulle and silk were very popular. Radios, Tv and magazines reminded women of their desire to be beautiful. In the 1950s it was the start of racism and communism. There were several designers that impacted the fashion industry. For instance, Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. Christian Dior started his first fashion show collection, in Paris that permanently changed fashion. Christian also opened up boutiques all over the world. Coco Chanel said she hated the the New look model. She took ac tion and reopened her business after closing it due to the war.
